Department Chair – Film, Television and Digital Media Department

The UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television is calling for nominations for the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media (FTVDM) Chair. We are looking for candidates who will demonstrate academic leadership and administrative skills, a vision for the future of media education, and a commitment to collaborate with faculty and the dean to support student success and well-being. in a multitude of separate programs.

We are particularly interested in candidates who will actively contribute to the pursuit of diversity, equity and inclusion within the department. This includes a diversity of perspectives, cultural backgrounds and experiences / practices of the department as well as a strong and demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

FTVDM is invested in both researchers and policy makers, and we welcome applicants who bring a strong agenda of research and / or creative practice with an ability to support both equally.

In addition to overseeing the administrative / academic operations of the department, the President will pave the way for the implementation of a renewed vision for FTVDM. This will include supporting and mentoring faculty, as well as driving strategic initiatives that will require inspiration, innovation and inclusiveness.

RANK / SALARY: We are looking for candidates who qualify for a Full Professor position at the University of California. Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should demonstrate excellence in scholarship and / or creative work, as well as exceptional leadership skills in both a professional and academic context. In addition, applicants must present:

  • In-depth understanding of faculty governance and university organizational structures.
    • Evidence of successful extra-institutional collaboration (ie community and industry partners, media arts organizations, learned and / or professional societies)
    • Active commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with relevant departments, interdisciplinary initiatives, research centers and archives / libraries across the university.
    • Clear alignment with public education goals and the historic commitment of UCLA and FTVDM to meet the educational needs of under-represented populations

REQUIREMENTS: Graduate degree or at least 8 years of professional experience in a media related discipline.
