disc to print, a high-end digital printing facility that manufactures premium digital products for discerning customers, has installed a new Xerox Iridesse color press from Altron Document Solutions, further expanding its portfolio of high-end printing solutions.

The new digital press continues Disc To Print’s ongoing investment in Xerox and its association with Altron Document Solutions, which began more than 14 years ago. Shane Whitter of Disc To Print explains that the decision to invest in Xerox’s highest quality digital press was made after a long comparison with a competing product which could not match the features and functionality of the Iridesse for the type of work produced by the company.

“The customers we work with demand the best from us as a boutique digital print provider, and so we are constantly striving for the best possible quality, color consistency, standard media support and after-market backup. selling the products we buy,” says Whitter.

“Without all of the above, we wouldn’t retain our customers, simple as that,” he says. “When customers need their feedback, they don’t care about the issues we face; they just care about their products. Apologizing is not an option. In this regard, Xerox has ensured consistency, with “as new” quality for many years with the same machines. This gives us complete confidence when dealing with new and long-time customers. »

The Xerox Iridesse features patented Color FLX technology, which layers CMYK with up to two specialty dry inks in one productive pass while maintaining a “spot” registration from color to color. Gold and silver HD EA Dry Inks incorporate metal flecks for a shine with a true metallic look, while spot or flood embellishments of white and clear HD EA Dry Ink unlock a wider range of specialty media with undertones. white coats and enhance virtually any stock with white or clear. design effects.

Smooth prints

New finishes and embellishments complement Xerox’s standard HD Print Engine, delivering a combination of 1200×1200×10-bit RIP rendering and 2400×2400×1-bit print imaging for gradients and smooth hues, fine lines and small text precision. New HD EA (High-Definition Emulsion Aggregate) toner is another key contributor to the CMYK quality of the press, creating smooth prints with lower gloss and excellent shadow detail, even in difficult images.

“Iridesse’s specialty colors allow Disc To Print to offer a wider range of print-on-demand services to our customers,” said Barry Hasleham, Key Account Manager, Altron Document Solutions. “Having a gold, silver, white, clear and neon pink spotlight also allows them to offer CMYK+, which is unique given that they don’t need specialist media.

“They can also print white, gold and silver on black media, which was impossible just a few years ago,” he adds. “Fluorescent Pink expands the color gamut of reds and oranges, while producing a stunning standalone pink tint. This color also fluoresces under UV, adding safety options to digital prints.

The wide range of standard paper stocks that will run through the machines gives us a major advantage in this market

Whitter says Disc To Print has come a long way since the move from older Ricoh printers to Xerox.

“We started with Ricoh machines in 2002 and after three different models we realized they weren’t able to consistently produce the level of quality our customers demanded,” he says. “In early 2007, I was approached by Altron (formerly Bytes Document Solutions), and after getting a demo of the Xerox DocuColor 8000, the rest is history.

“Since then we have used the DC8000, DC1000, DC260, D95 and now the Iridesse. The fact that all of the Xerox products we have purchased have produced consistent results has allowed us to satisfy even the most demanding customers. This, combined with ever-improving print quality, larger print area and larger storage capacities in new machines, has allowed us to expand our customer base and product offering. The Xerox machines do not require us to preprocess paper stocks, and the wide range of standard paper stocks that will run through the machines gives us a major advantage in this market.
