Digital media have their advantages and disadvantages. While owning digital media means that you don’t have to worry about physical space and can download and delete it as you wish, it also means that it could just as easily disappear without you being able to. do anything. When it comes to games, there are a number of reasons why your expensive investment might disappear from the interwebs; the most common being developers pulling games off digital shelves due to copyright issues.

While the conversation around digital media preservation is long and winding, Hideo Kojima has delivered his verdict on the matter. As spotted by GameRant, the director recently tweeted about purchasing a Tangerine Dream box set. He said that whenever he thought CDs would go away eventually, he would buy a few.

This clearly sent Kojima into a spiral, as exactly ten minutes later he tweeted again complain about the downsides of digital media. “Ultimately, even digital data will no longer be held by individuals on their own initiative. Every time there is a major change or an accident in the world, in a country, in a government, in an idea, in a trend, access can be suddenly cut off, ”he said. “We will not be able to freely access the movies, books and music that we loved. I would be helpless. This is what I’m afraid of. It is not greed.

This isn’t the director’s first time talking about digital media, either. Earlier in July, he tweeted that streaming was more convenient even though he preferred physical media. “One day there will be no more CDs or BDs. That day will surely come. As a person from the Showa era, I want to physically own the things I love, “he wrote on Twitter.” I guess that’s because I grew up in a time when he didn’t. There was no property or information like now. ”He also mentioned that it took a lot of courage to finally switch to CDs from LPs.

We recently learned that Kojima’s latest game Death Stranding has sold over 5 million copies on PlayStation 4 and PC.
