North Island College Launches Graduate Programs in Digital Design and Development – Port Alberni Valley News

NIC is launching two new postgraduate programs to support students interested in a career in the world of digital design and development.

The DIGITAL Design + Development Graduate Certificate and Diploma begins this fall and is open to students interested in web design, coding, and application development.

“These two new programs have been developed for those looking to deepen their design and development skills, or those looking to change careers,” said Diane Naugler, Dean of Business and Applied Studies. “Postgraduate programs are a great opportunity for students to develop their skills and make the transition to a new career in this high-demand field. “

The certificate and diploma options allow students to choose the level of training they wish to take. The one-year certificate focuses on a wide range of web and application development skills, while the two-year degree provides students with two streams to specialize in web development or mobile application development.

Web and mobile application developers are in high demand. WorkBC lists software engineers and designers, computer programmers and interactive media developers, and web designers and developers as occupations with high potential. They are expected to be in high demand over the next 10 years.

“Our industry has seen a massive increase in demand over the past year as more companies and organizations have gone digital,” said Megan Wilson, Design and Development Program Coordinator digital. “Even as the world is coming back to more face-to-face operations, many companies have realized how important it is to have a strong digital presence now and in the future. “

Wilson says the digital design and development industry also offers many benefits that professionals are looking for in a post-pandemic world.

“One of the best things about our industry is that you can work from anywhere,” she said. “This allows for maximum flexibility in terms of time, location and mobility – what a lot of people look for as they start planning for the next step in their careers. “

Both programs are offered in person on the Comox Valley campus, or in an unscheduled digital format to provide maximum flexibility for students.

Applications for the September 2021 and January 2022 start dates are open now. Learn more about the new graduate programs at
